Off the Respirator!

Here is what our baby looks like...almost.  Doesn't he look like a little old man?  :)
Bennett was taken off the respirator this evening as he was pretty much breathing on his own.  The only tube left in his mouth is the one that reaches to his stomach in order to suck out any junk in his tummy.  We were estatic to have been able to get a shot of his little face before they had to put another tube on.

Sound asleep and all cuddled up.

We can't remember what the name of the tube is that they just put in Bennett's nose...but it is there simply to force air in Bennett's lungs and guarantee they stay open.  He will have it removed once he has shown to be able to breathe without any assistance.

The nurses put Bennett in this little cocoon.  It's designed to help babies feel safe and swaddled.  Brian is touching Bennett in a way that also helps him to feel safe as caressing babies in the NICU can sometimes overstimulate them.

Our little man opens his eyes!  Look at those beauties!

Bennett looks like he's rowing a boat.

Daddy takes video of our little man.

  1. hurray for no more respirator! such good news. the new tube is called a nasal cannula. so much more non-invasive than the respirator.

  2. Hooray! This is such wonderful news! It's also great to see more of that beautiful face and gorgeous eyes!

  3. What a little sweetie!! So glad to see his little face and especially his eyes -- they are beautiful! :)

  4. What a great update! So glad for good news and such cute pics of little Bennett! Can't wait to meet him in person!

  5. I can see the resemblance to little Oliver. He's so cute and so loved. He is truly blessed to be apart of the Gamel Family...and yes, you are BLESSED to be his parents.
