Holding Bennett for the First Time

Yesterday was a very special day.  It was the first day we were able to hold Bennett.  Breck was so very excited. For a few moments, all the tubes melted away.

She had longed for today for an agonizing 6 days longer than expected.  It was worth every moment of waiting.

He looked her in the eyes and seemed pleased to be nestled in her arms.

Brian holding his second-born son.

The two things Brian noticed about holding Bennett was how warm and small he was.

Holding Bennett for the first time helped Brian feel connected to him in a way he hadn't felt before - Brian felt closer to Bennett but he also sensed more of Bennett's pain.

A kiss from mother dear.

Finally the picture we were waiting for: Introducing our son, Bennett Brinson Gamel.
*now we're just waiting for the picture of our whole family

  1. Breck, I just want to wrap my arms around you and Bennett in that first picture. I'm anticipating the day the four of you are pictured together. Much love to you all.

  2. Brian and Breck, Bennett is a beautiful gift from the Lord.

    Our hearts rejoice with you and ache with you at the same time.

    We are greatly encouraged by your faith and can see how the Lord is using your afflictions for His glory.

    This hymn has been a great encouragement to us when fears rise in our hearts. Perhaps it will be for you as well.

    Day By Day

    Day by day, and with each passing moment,
    Strength I find to meet my trials here;
    Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,
    I've no cause for worry or for fear.
    He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
    Gives unto each day what He deems best,
    Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,
    Mingling toil with peace and rest.

    Every day the Lord Himself is near me,
    With a special mercy for each hour;
    All my cares He fain would bear and cheer me,
    He whose name is Counsellor and Pow'r.
    The protection of His child and treasure
    Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
    "As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,"
    This the pledge to me He made.

    Help me then, in every tribulation,
    So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
    That I lose not faith's sweet consolation,
    Offered me within Thy holy Word.
    Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
    E'er to take, as from a father's hand,
    One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
    Till with Christ the Lord I stand.

  3. After following your blog from day one, these pictures of you holding Bennett are so moving. How precious his sweet life is.

  4. What a sweet and special moment for your family. You look so contented just to have your little man in your arms...and he looks contented to be there. Love you.

  5. Yes! I've been waiting for this day! Congrats! I'm so glad you finally got to hold your son!

  6. Thanks for the pics B&B!
    Can't wait to see little Oliver fill in the picture.
    See you soon!

  7. I have tears in my eyes after seeing you holding Bennett. What a wonderful day! Thank you for updating this blog. It has helped all of us from far away to understand and see what you are experiencing!

  8. Dear Breck and Brian, Thank you for sharing your precious moments with your brand new miracle with all of us. He is a beautiful boy!!! We lifted Bennett up in prayer on Wednesday night. (y'all were prayed for too of course) I will continue to pray so hard for all of you! I can only imagine how hard it is for your dad, Breck! He has to stay in Washington and try to make some sense of all the mess that is going on. All of us back here at home so appreciate what he is doing for us.

    I pray that Bennett continues to grow strong and that the two of you remain strong in your faith! I pray for y'all to stay well. I pray for y'all to stay strong for Bennett AND for each other!!! And I know that God will be right there in the middle of it!!! I also pray for every doctor, nurse, technician, etc. that comes in contact with your precious little one! I pray that y'all are getting some peaceful sleep tonight.
