Halloween 2011

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

Bennett and Oliver had a great Halloween this year!!  The both really loved it!

It's no secret Oliver loves tornadoes.  He loves to read about them, talk about them, draw them and pretend to be them.  So, clearly, there was no other costume we could even imagine him wearing for Halloween this year!

But he wasn't just any tornado...  (the tulle on his shoulders is the spinning thunder clouds.)

He was an F-5 tornado - the most powerful tornado that can be!!

Check out the detail of the costume?  The tornado runs from the bottom of his left foot all the way to his shoulders.  The brown tulle around his ankle is the "spinning dirt."

The little items on the costumes are all things that have been sucked up by the tornado (a tree, a tractor, a horse, a fence, a police car, etc.)

One of the things I love about the boys still being so little is they will still let me dress them up in theme costumes.  So, what better goes with a tornado than Toto from the Wizard of Oz?

In case you don't remember, here is what Toto the dog looks like.

Here was our Toto.  (Bennett would say "woo woo" for "woof, woof".)

I cannot take credit for these costumes.  The boys' costumes were meticulously and lovely handmade by their babysitter and our good friend, Margaret!  (I have a whole upcoming post about how much we love Margaret!!)  We cannot say enough with regards to how much the boys loved their costumes this year.  Oliver, especially, has shown how well made they are.  He cannot help but put the costume on and spin around and around saying, "I suckin' up things, mom!  I suckin' up things!"

Bennett did a great job this year.  Unfortunately, on our third house, a scary plastic "dead" guy (the kind you buy at Walmart) came up from the ground and scared Bennett tremendously.  So, despite that we kept telling him the next houses were not scary, that was his third and last house he trick-or-treated at this year.  We found he was scared by jackolanterns and kids with masks (understandable!).  Hopefully next year will be better!

Oliver did a great job this year.  He knew the drill and walked up to neighbors' doors with confidence.  We were really proud of him.  He came home with a bucket full of candy - candy he won't likely finish until Easter of 2012!

Halloween is one of our favorite times of the year because we get to see our neighbors again, those who hide out in their air conditioned homes during the sweltering hot days of summer that lasts from May until September!

Happy Halloween!!  See you guys next year!

  1. So fun! I'm jealous of all your outside pictures! It rained horribly here. And poor Bennett...I dont know why people have to go to such lengths...Halloween should be about the kids!
