Hospitalization Update Day 1, 3:06pm

We are still waiting to hear from the Infectious Disease docs.  I'm particularly anxious to see them since they will really help us decide which course of action to take next.  But also, I am waiting for them to get to go an a quick trip to Target to pick up some essentials.  Brian forgot the shampoo and soap.  :)

However, we do have some news.  One of the Pediatric Surgeons came to visit us an hour ago.  He explained that they have been talking with their surgical team about why Bennett's C.Diff. might be so persistent and resistant against medication.  Bennett is not a normal C.Diff case, that is for sure.  So, they have decided to do a Barium Enema to see if there might be an anatomical reason why Bennett is having C.Diff.  They are wondering, although they doubt that this is the case, if Bennett might have scar tissue or some issue with his colon where his bowel was resectioned when he was born, causing C.Diff to build up in his bowels.

I'm not sure if this is the reason, either.  But I am *ecstatic* about this thought process!  Finally, someone is helping us really think outside of the box regarding Bennett's C.Diff.  This is exactly what we need.  We need to go beyond the obvious and start thinking creatively about what might be causing Bennett's resistance to antibiotics.

  1. Madeline had a barium enema done when she was younger. I hope they keep searching for more answers and find it!

  2. OMG... I was just going through my list of blogs. WOW! You have been through it girl! AHHH ... I wish I could give you a big hug! Hang in there! If there is anything at all you need that I could possibly do, I can be there in a pinch. Much love to you and your family. Get some rest when ya can!
