Praying for Bennett Around The Clock

Monday, November 16, 2009

Many people have asked us for ways to help us since we learned Bennett was critically ill.  The love and support we have felt during such as time as this has been amazing.  Truly, we could never really express what these tangible signs of love have meant to us.

Prayer, a less tangible but just as important sign of love, has also been a real gift.  Many times our hearts have been so heavy, our eyes swimming with tears and our bodies so weak from lack of sleep and stress that we have found a loss of words when we have come to God.  We have forgotten what to ask for, what even to say.

But when we hear (through letters, emails, the blog and phone calls) that we are being thought about and prayed for, we are comforted that others are speaking the words for us, going to God on our behalf.  They are saying the words we cannot say.

So, recently we thought of a way our friends and family (aka Bennett's Brigade) could help Bennett...and it's something easy but would be such a blessing to us: to have people pray around the clock everyday of the week.

It works like this...we'd love for Bennett to be prayed for every hour of everyday.  So, we'd like to find 168 people who would pick an hour of the day and day of the week commit to praying for Bennett.

It's easy for us to feel lonely sitting in the hospital watching our infant scream in pain over and over as the experts run tests and assess him.  It's easy to feel like there is no end to this when we realize that caring for a chronically ill child is just that...something chronic.  And it's easy to forget that our friends and family will not abandon us but are waiting for us to return to life as normal, when we are able - however long that takes.

But how comforting to know that every painful hour that passes, Bennett is being covered in prayer.

We'd love to have a list of names of people praying for Bennett.  This list would be to remind ourselves that God is caring for us...through people who are praying for Bennett.

Typically, this blog is meant only as a journal in which we share with those who love us and care for Bennett.  But this one time, we'd love to use the blog to illicit prayer partners on Bennett's behalf.  We envision having 168 friends pray for Bennett on the hour throughout the day.

Here are three prayer requests, as suggestions:
1.) Prayer for the improvement of Bennett's health (weight gain, no infections, no more hospitalizations, Cystic Fibrosis symptoms will stay at bay)
2.) Prayer that God will give Bennett peace in the midst of this and that he will not continue to suffer
3.) Prayer for clear guidance of the doctors and experts as we determine the best way to help Bennett thrive

And, if we could add one more, it would be this:
4.) Prayer for the sick child, like Bennett, who has no 168 people praying for him/her.  We long that they too will be remembered in prayer - that their health would improve, their suffering would be lessened, that their doctors and parents would be able to help them.

So, if anyone from Bennett's Brigade would be willing to participate in this "Around the Clock" effort, please let us know your name and the time/day you will commit to pray.  We'll put it in the notebook we carrying around with us always so we can be reminded that God is caring for Bennett and that Bennett is being prayed for.

This is such a wonderful idea and I would be glad to do this for Bennett and a child that does not have anyone to pray for them.

Breck - Your family is in our prayers during each day, but I am glad to commit to the time of Monday 8am. This past Sunday I asked for prayers for Bennett and the family and our pastor offered a beautiful prayer for all of you! So another 100 prayers went up from Rockledge, FL! May you reach out and hold on to all the prayers when the road gets hard! Bennett is a special blessing for all of us to learn from and remember to lean on our wonderful God!May the peace of God be with all of you and the wisdom to know when to challenge the care being given! Momma bear usually know best!!

I will pray on Tuesday at 2:00PM for each one of you in the family and especially Bennett. Your journal is so touching to read and all who read it are brought to tears. God will keep all his promises, keep your eyes on Him. You are such an inspiration for the great faith God has given you. Kay Dillon- Minden
