Day 8 - Update 6:15pm

Thursday, October 8, 2009

Bennett continues to do well.

Today, the doctors took him off the cannula (the tube that was put in his nose after the respirator was taken out). The cannula had been keeping his lungs open while he breathed room air.   However, Bennett has shown he's ready to breathe on his own.

We are still concerned to hear that Bennett's colon still has an obstruction.   The meconium from his birth is still blocking any ability to use his intestines normally.

Once his colon is working normally, the doctors will begin trying to feed him. Until then, the surgeon residents are having to irrigate his bowels twice a day.

We are looking forward to when Bennett begins eating. He's taken to a pacifer so he's showing us he's ready to try!!
