Day 4 - Update 12am

Monday, October 5, 2009

Bennett is continuing to do well.  His color is beautiful and his swelling continues to go down.

When we visited him tonight night, he was on 24 percent oxygen.  Room air is 21 percent so he is very close to being off the respirator!  We are SOOO excited and anxious that tomorrow is the day.  However, we have been cautiously warned that all NICU babies have good and bad days.  So, we're not getting our hopes up too much.

He is being weaned off the morphine some.  This has been hard because he looks like he's in more pain.  However, the doctor wants to encourage him to use his own lungs so she is trying not to sedate him as much.  This as meant that we sometimes get to peek of his eyes.  However, we haven't really ever seen him fully awake.

His tummy is still really tight so that means there is still edema (or swelling) that needs to go down from his surgery.  However, each day him tummy is more tender so we expect that to continue.

We are anxiously awaiting Thursday of this week as he may be able to hold him and we will hopefully know the results of the Cystic Fibrosis test.

  3. Breck and Brian,
Keeping up with your blog is one of the highlights of my days. I was out of town and away from my computer for the past two days but when I came back I was thrilled to see just how much progress Bennett has made in only two days! The differences in the pictures (his coloring and the number of machines) is remarkable! What wonderful news! Know that you're continually in our thoughts and prayers!
    Blessings,
    Heather

P.S. I just LOVE his hair!
